I tried to come up with a comparison. Its not possible. We need some serious development this year and guys have to step up.
I think 2014 will be setup based on 2013, I think Bo sees this opportunity and we will see some players play this year.
We will be about the same record wise
The offense will be explosive. The defense will be average again for different reasons than last. We are more talented and faster but younger and more inexperienced and with less depth in spots. Special teams is a big question for us too.
Probably wont have as many nailbiters. We'll pry win some conference games easier than last because of our schedule...but we'll get handled easily in a couple games this year too.
Ceiling this year - We win the B1G
Cellar this year - We finish 3rd
Ceiling next year - No clue. We need men on the field.
Cellar is our division.
This seems to be comparing '12 and '13.

Our O will be explosive with all the talent we have but I disagree about our D. I believe our DL will be a vast improvement from last year and as our D gains more game experience we will be very good by Nov 2013. We'll be young but we have the talent, speed, etc needed to play for the B1G crown.
Agree with this. The linebackers from top to bottom are the most athletically talented group pelini has had at NU. And with our schedule it's not a complete baptism by fire so by conference play they should be rounding into shape. The db play will be improved as well. First this is their second year under joseph so continuity should be better. And seisey will be healthy and sjb will have become an official db. Also if they keep charles at safety then that helps Overall team speed and against the big plays. And special teams will be greatly improved just imagine Afalava, brown, love, banderas, Davie, and cooper flying down the field covering kicks. And hopefully the combination of newby and westerkamp/c jackson returning them. Yes a lot of guys are not experienced but that's a catch 22 cause you can't get it on the bench and in the right situation these young guys can really help us out. I truly do hope bo " fires his guns" cause if he does I don't see a team on our schedule we can't beat
That's what I was thinking.
Comparing '12 to '13, I think the record will be very similar. I think the ceiling is higher in '13 though. Our O will be better and the defense will be more athletic but less experienced. We also have a much easier schedule early than we did last year and by late in the season I think the D will be peaking with the young guys as opposed to last year where there was a ton of Seniors who had peaked a year previous.
Comparing 13' to 14' like the OP said... It all will depend on Armstrong or Stanton. There will still be a lot of talent on O so besides losing Taylor, we wont be taking a step back anywhere. The D will be more experienced and we still have a good schedule that will include Mich at home.
13' B1G champs
14' B1G champs
Yes....I figured the OP just entered the title wrong. Don't know how we can compare 2013 to 2014 when we don't have a basis to start from yet.
As to the 13 to 14 discussion.
It will be similar to this year only on opposite sides of the ball. We lose a 4-year starting QB and a good chunk of the OL for the 2014 season, so we will likely be rebuilding there. The 2014 defense should be better than what we see this year. In both cases..you are probably looking at 9-10 win type teams

Who will we get handled by? I don't see anyone on our schedule handling us in any way. Should be in the Big Ten game again
Did you see a 7-5 Wisconsin team hanging 70 on us this year?
UCLA racked up 36 points and 650 yards last year on us. That was in their second game under Mora with a bunch of freshmen and sophomores on the OL and at QB. They could hang a large number on us.
Last time we played in Michigan, we lost by 28. Things could go wrong up there.
Could be in the Big Ten game again. And we will likely have to face Ohio State who could put one on us.
