  • holy cow.... he has a ton of pop behind those shoulders. i love his pursuit in traffic too. pretty sure i even saw an effective swim-move in there towards the end. i think coach kaz can/will turn him into a very disruptive type of player. seems to have a similar motor to a guy like JJ Watt

    welcome AJ!

Just FYI... some film on him. I like his mean streak, the kid is vicious and he hits with bad intentions, has speed with a large frame, never quits on a play and has great back side pursuit. The one thing I see is that he plays a lot standing up, you have to wonder how he would do in a 3-point stance.

Personally, I think he's a lock for a 4-star rating at the end of his senior year. Take a look at this Junior film.

Ya, they must have had a good/big line to keep him standing up like that so much. Seems like coaches gave him some freelancing ability. You know that won't be the case here. He'll learn the discipline from Bo, that's for sure.

  • Although interesting to see Bo told him there would be some chance of him playing standing up...could we be heading towards a possible 3-4 package at some point in a couple years?

Bo has a 3-4 package he's used. Also, the one I like best the "stand-around" front four. Kaz has more than the 2-Gap in his fold also.

I believe the 3-4 (standup DE) will always play a part in Bo's defense. we saw it against Mizzou a few years ago and its shown a few times since... Maybe we will eventually see more of it once we get "that guy" that fits into a standup-DE role... ive always had my hopes for Martin to fill that role but its yet to materialize...

Doubtful. I'm guessing that would be in special packages, as they did against Michigan State or in third down situations.

  • I do love the occasional genius game plan by Bo....both the Mizzou game 2 years back in Lincoln and the Mich St game last year are great examples of a specific game plan that just destroyed the offenses rhythm and ability to function.

I hope now that Bo has a beat on what teams in the B10 will be doing, he'll have one of those dialed up for Michigan.

  • Heard A.J. on a radio show where he talked about getting ready for a track meet where he was competing in the weights (shot, discus) along with the 100 meters and the 4x100 relay. And my thought was "Yikes! Bring him off the edge!!!" What a combination of size, speed, strength & coordination.

I agree that Bo & Co can truly come up with some mind-boggling defensive schemes, but I think that the Michigan State game last year has to be taken with a grain of salt. The Huskers SHOULD have had a heck of a plan in place, because they basically had 3 weeks to get ready for it--the bye week after Ohio State, then the Minnesota game that was basically a walk-through, and then the Michigan State week. Contrast that with Mich State's situation, where they had a tough game vs Wisconsin the previous week and then a short week to get ready for the Nebraska game. And previously in the Big XII, the Huskers were able I feel to in a way short-change game plans for lesser opponents (a la KU) in order to load up for outfits like Mizzou.

We found out last year IMO that the B1G schedule has more week-to-week muscle to it than the Big XII. To me that is going to be the challenge for the program--being able to do more adjusting week to week and in-game versus having the relative luxury of prepping for 1 or 2 big showdowns in a given season.

Nebraska picked up its fourth commit of the 2013 class with the verbal pledge of Wisconsin defensive end A.J. Natter.

A.J. Natter is very underrated! Huge get for a position of need!woot
