A glance at Nebraska's running backs and fullbacks, and how the position will look significantly different in the fall.

  • I'm hoping Taylor redshirts, but since we don't like to redshirt HB's that may not happen.

    Bills2

  • Just like at QB, if the starter gets hurt we will be banking on these young inexperienced guys. In one play Taylor or Newby could be our starting RB. Really wish Heard didn't leave.

  • Again speaking for me and not for or at any Coach at Nebraska....If Nebraska can score an A+ at RB Management 101 and not just hand the FB predominantly to "who is hot" we will do very very well! Its unfortunate that we lost Braylon Heard!

    No further comments. Thank you.

  • IMHO, I really feel Cross is gonna have to come through early on in the season, giving Newby and/or Taylor time to acclimate.

I agree with cool here. There is more to RB than just taking a handoff and running with the ball. They need to be able to do the other things as well before getting on the field IMHO...

    Ditto.

I've also heard he's dropped some weight also. Has anyone heard anything else about that?

  • Someone to keep an eye on is King Frazier I'd like to see what he could do

very true... wouldn't be surprized to see him as the #3 or even #2 guy in the spring. I think Newby will be returning kicks in the fall. Really excited about this group.

According to recent comments by Bo, Cross is apparently looking more stream lined in winter conditioning. Pelini said he was "taken aback" when he saw Cross, evidently surprised that he had lost weight.

Nothing more was said, but Cross might be trying to play a few pounds lighter in 2013. If it led to a little more spring in his step, he might see the field more.

  • Id ideally like Abdullah #1, King #2 Cross short yardage and change up back, Newby return man and special package this year and Taylor RS

  • Nice piece here. Good read.

Anyone who thinks that Newby and Taylor will have a big impact in the run game must be suspecting Ameer Cross, and maybe even Frazier to be injured at the same time.

Glad to see Cross isn't satisfied with being a big slow back who only gets goal line carries. He wants to be the #2.

I expect Taylor to RS and I would expect Newby to get some time, but only as a kick returner.

We are stacked and or offense is going to very very good. Can't wait for the WR coming and going episode!

  • I think with our schedule being a bit easier,(no Ohio St. or Wisconsin), and with us getting 8 games at home, we will see all of our running backs getting their fair share of carries. Abdullah will be the starter but I think it's anybody's guess who will be #2. As much as I'd like to see Taylor redshirt I think Pelini will play him. The kid is an awesome talent and I'm sure Pelini knows that Husker fans are aware of Taylor's accomplishments and that those fans will be wanting to see both Taylor and Newby on the field. Just a gut feeling on my part.

I don't believe Bo goes about his days trying to appease husker fans wishes, do you? I mean, winning... yes but I doubt there will be much pressure for Bo to play the freshman provided Ameer is producing on the field.

I have to think Ameer will be working on ball security as well. He is the kind of kid who will fix a problem like that eventually. He cares too much not too.

Agreed. I also wanted Heard to stay at NU and was sad to see him go.

Problem with cross last year was holding into the ball. We will see if that gets better.

I simply think Bo knows that Husker fans are aware of how talented Taylor and Newby are and I think he knows that Husker fans are very excited about seeing them play. Whether or not he plays both I don't know but I totally understand if he does.

Actually outside of the Idaho State game, where he had his lone fumble of the season, he's been pretty good about holding onto the ball. Granted his sample size was much smaller that say, Ameer, who really needs to pick that aspect up fast. Being the diligent worker Imani is, I think he'll do just fine there. Just gotta get a little quicker and skinner in between the tackles.
