Checking in On Our Kin Part 2

  • For those of you who like to keep tabs on coaches and players with Husker ties.

    Carl Pelini, Florida Atlantic
    - Pelini finally got his first win since a 7-3 W over Wagner in week 1 as the Owls notched a 34-27 victory over Troy(4-4) last week. The FAU defense has been atrocious this season but, in all fairness, have had a difficult schedule this year. They travel to Navy this weekend. Looking at their schedule, one would assume their best chance at getting another victory will come in two weeks when they face Florida International on Friday, November 16th. It's important to keep in mind the team is coming off a one win season, so ending the year 3-9 would be a huge improvement. This is likely as they've owned FIU over the years and it looks like they'll pull it off again.

    Turner Gill, Liberty
    - After starting off the year 0-4, Gill managed to lead Liberty to three consecutive wins before dropping last weekends contest at Coastal Carolina. The Flames have three games left, including a match up vs. 8-1 Stony Brook next week. If Gill can't get them back on another hot streak, this will be their first losing season since 2005. Liberty has played a lot of close ball games, however, including a 20-17 loss at Wake Forest in week one.

    Joe Moglia, Coastal Carolina
    - After starting the year out 2-0, the Chanticleers dropped 4 games in a row(2 v. FBS opponents.) They are back to .500 with wins over VMI and Liberty in the last two weeks. Their next 3 opponents have a combined record of 8-17, meaning Moglia still has a chance to end the year with a 7-4 record. They can not win their conference and I am not sure if they are still alive for the playoffs.

    Cody Green, Tulsa
    - Since losing to Iowa St., 38-23, on opening weekend, Tulsa is now on a 7 game win streak. However, Green has really played a minimal part in this run first offense, acting mostly as a steady hand. He has thrown for 1,329 yards(52.2% completion rate) with 10 scores to 6 picks. He has rushed for 75 yards, most of which came from a 45-yard TD run earlier in the year. He sat out their last victory due to injury, but has been practicing and is expected to return to the field tomorrow as they travel to Arkansas. Tulsa currently leads their division by 2 conference games(3 to go) and should end up playing in the C-USA title game.
