Chase Rome and Heard are gone

  • klein12 said...

Maybe... but the fact is we will be relying on a Sr with one leg, a Jr. with bad legs, two RS-FR... two Tr-FR... and Toby Okuyemi... Think about it. This is not going to end well.

With Rome there is no way of it ending well. i'd rather have hope for change and an upgrade then knowing without a doubt our DL was going to have Rome on it. which honestly i dont think he was going to be playing much next year anyway. not based on some of the things ive heard anyway.

Rome was a disease. we are better off. younger guys will get a lot of reps this spring. our DL will be much different than expected come Fall.

Agree to disagree. Much different? There aren't alot of options. We will be young. We will be limited. It's way our defense will struggle alot at times next year.

there's a reason Rome got a second chance when other people in his position didn't...

yes there is. he apologized and owned up to his teammates. his teammages/unity council gave him a second chance. that was not a decision made by the coaching staff. he owned up and apologized just to later continue his B.S.

If he owned up and apologized once...why couldn't he do it again. Which is why its pure speculation on your part to assume we are better off.

  • If there are any DT's that are graduated and looking to transfer for one last season Russel Wilson style we need to knock on their door yesterday.

if i punched you in the face. then apologized just to turn around and punch you in the face again would you forgive me a second time? 3rd time? 4th time?

Anybody think Kaz changes up the way he plays his line? As in the style of play because of the mass amount of youth. I could see them going to a style more suited to just playin ball rather than a schematic defense. These younger guys will look like 1 star guys if they try and play Bo's defense next year. They have to change it right?????

Granted I am not a coach, but I have to think this would be the way to get better. I mean, how does Gregory fit into this defense as it stands right now? I just don't see it. He looks great rushing the QB, but since when does Bo do this regularly?

Little development has happened along the line, now it needs to happen even faster now.

    I don't know....no

hey, if Rome didn't own up he deserves to be off the team. I agree. Problem isn't that I want him on the team it's that we have no replacement for his experience. None. We don't even have a JUCO coming in to play right away. With this wide open spot on our Roster we couldn't reel in one JUCO DT to take his spot.

I love this class. But that's the biggest short coming by far.

in a sense of moving forward we are better off. for instance i am a huge duke basketball fan as most already know. When Kelly went down with an injury it hurt at first but it gave us an opportunity to get some young possibly more athletic guys to get PT and attention in practice. its a blessing in disguise. i guess i will just have to save my i told you so's for next fall.

Slightly different dynamic there. Wouldn't expect you to come up with a well thought out example though

We will get a better idea of the impact Kaz is having during the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

Much different indeed, but as it stands today, not better.

We don't even know what we have in the youing guys. Promise is all we got. Toby, Guy, Vestal, Randle and Rome all looked promising too when they were recruited and as freshman.

Moving forward doesn't make you better this year though. If you want to argue this expedites the development for the younger guys which will pay dividends in the future...I can buy it. This is not a good thing for 2013 though

    It isn't.

I don't care for you and you don't benefit me at all. It serves me no right to forgive you. For the team, they have a reason to give Rome the benefit of the doubt...Rome can benefit the team. There's a reason to forgive. Entirely different situations.

yes it does. coach kaz is going to give all the younger guys A LOT of chances this spring to step up. if Rome left 5 months from now i'd totally agree with you. the coaches knew this was coming for a long time.

disagree... Duke is Duke, and Basketball is way different. Comparing us to Duke basketball makes no sense. Comparing Alabama to Duke basketball would make perfect sense.

forgive me for what? lol ive never done anything to you shrug.

the team has no reason to give Rome the benefit of the doubt. He is gone. and like Bo said it was mutual. when he said that he was not just referring to the coaching staff.

We are not better off. We were thin on depth and talent entering the day. We just lost our second most experienced player and best player of anyone who didn't redshirt.

You now rely on 2 guys with serious knee problems and freshmen and Bo doesn't have a long record of success here in developing his own DL at Nebraska.

All this does is force the issue with the young guys and take talent off your roster. Until that talent takes the step...you are not in a better position.

    nustudent

  • I think you both make sensible points.

Ill say this, if a guy needs to go, then get him out here and don't look back. I understand we are extremely young now for 2013, but if something needs to change, then it needs to change. Rome messed up several times and it seems pretty obvious at this point that he is no longer welcome. Team Chemistry does have a roll here, don't forget this.

Bo said he told kids he recruited this cycle to get ready cuz they are playing. We are going to going to see alot of youngsters in 2013. We have a lot of young talent. They are playing earlier than they thought and coach Kaz is going to gettin prove his worth in '13

I'm not arguing that the reasons are justified... I'm arguing that given the reasons and the fact that the coaching staff knew how desperate we were on the DL our recruiting of the DTs this year was atrocious. I like Maurice and Collins, but they'r enot ready made. Neither of them is going to come in and plug the gap. Curry and Valentine look good, but we have no idea how good and Williams and Randle each play on one leg.

Look at our depth: Thad Randle. Kevin Williams. Toby Okuyemi. Jay Guy. Aaron Curry, Vincent Valentine. Maliek Collins. Kevin Maurice.

We have exactly 8 scholarship DTs right now. 2 have bad knees. 2 haven't played a snap and were on scout team THROUGH their rs-so seasons. 2 are redshirt freshmen. 2 are true freshmen.

What looks good about that situation? The fact that we as a staff couldn't pull in one solid JUCO prospect at the DT spot does not bode well for 2013.
