If your talking Pelini, he coached in the SEC and won a national title as a DC in the SEC.
    Just sayin.

He just can't do it as a head coach playing against an SEC team like Charlie did.
And by the way 2 rings beat one. Charlie has two.

    Just saying

He didn't lift a finger recruiting any of his talent. Ask any LSU fan. That's why they are doubled over laughing every time his name comes up for the LSU job. Shawn has earned his respect. They just won a big game something Bo hasn't done in 5 years. A top 3 team.

    You have a point.

But Bo's assistant hires have been mostly failures.

Beck ended up being decent. But he's mostly a one dimensional coach.

I'd be very surprised if the offense isn't run-pass balanced after Martinez graduates.

Why wouldn't we run the ball, we have great RBs. We also have great WRs. The problem is our QB not being able to secure the ball or make the throws in critical situations.

They also lost -- at home -- to a team with a losing record. Huge win for the program and all involved, but you're way overstating the importance. I'm impressed, no doubt, but it's still a one-off win.

Like the wide open turner in the corner of the end zone that would have put us up by 21 but instead we get 3 out of it. I bet any other D1 QB would have made that throw blindfolded.

Martinez has made strides, but he's still not an elite passer. It means Beck (like Wats before) has to lean a little more heavily on the run game. Based on previous coaching jobs and statements he's made more recently, it's clear that Beck's ultimate goal is to run a balanced spread. If anything, he prefers to air it out, though I doubt we'll ever be a 60-40 passing team.

I think the passing game will open up more after Martinez -- he isn't a good passer despite his completion percentage. He generally hits the wide open receiver but he doesn't make throws like Aaron Murray. I haven't seen Tommy Armstrong at all (other than highlight film) -- saw one of Stanton's games on ESPN -- both have more natural throwing motions. We will always need to be able to run the ball but I think with the way we are recruiting WRs plus the talent we have, the passing game can become much more dynamic.

Any word on Vandenburg's decision? Would love to have that 6'6 monster replacing Ben Cotton on the play action pass down the middle.

I wasn't defending Bo. I believe the poster was saying strong had an advantage to playing SEC teams because he coached there. I was saying so did Pelini.

It was a dis to Bo for not being able to beat them.

That's the first time I was interpreted as defending Bo. Trust me, I wasn't. I was referencing the SEC experience.

I was referencing Beck as being only a coach, not a coach/recruiter. He's a part time recruiter. Hence, the one dimensional comment.

That is ALL on Bo. Beck is actually a pretty good recruiter. But bo doesn't want him out recruiting.
