I used to drink Jameson only pretty much but I got a skunky weird tasting bottle one time and it ruined it for me.

That's like me and beam, old style, miller, and bud products. I always get the crap taste. For my sake revisit the Jameson followed with pickle juice. I wouldn't steer you wrong.

No pickles? How do you prevent hangovers then.

  • Ya it's been awhile since I bought a new IPA. I've been going through a whiskey stage lately. Woodford is very good btw. Bushmills is pretty good for pretty cheap

I usually have captain Morgan private stock as well ... Love that stuff. (Only liquor other than whiskey I drink for the most part)

  • Bushmills is my choice if I'm drinking Irish whiskey. My grandfather drank it every night. I am not on his level, but maybe someday with some practice I can die an alcoholic.

All kidding aside, i have couple new beers to post about. Coming soon.

  • Speaking of pickles does anyone else like to add a pickle spear to cheaper beers? I've found they add a nice touch to a PBR or miller lite.

Standard dill spears, never tried anything else. You always have a tasty treat at the end of your beer!

  • Alright boys and girls, a lot has happened since the last time i posted in the BYBD ( yes, that just happened!!)

In the last 2/3 weeks i've consumed more than my fair share of pints but hey, the huskers are winning and its the offseason so as I like to say, Giddyup!

Here are the highlights and lowlights. Also, before i start i'll add once again for anyone new, many of these beers are consumed at a place called World of Beer. A fantastic chain bar that is expanding. Started in florida but has expanded to Texas, the Carolina's, Chicago, Milwauke and a few others. Check it out if you are traveling and have a night to kill out on the town.

'Enjoy By' IPA - Stone Brewing Co - Dangerously drinkable at 9.4%. Honestly has to go to my hall of fame after the first try. This is an IPA you have got to have. I drank a pint and was amazed by how fresh it tasted. Stone releases this brew every so often in small batches. Because the batch is not built to keep, it allows them to brew it differently (so they say) Anyway, i'm buying what they are selling, this is up there with Fireston Double Jack and Revolution Double Fist. Great beer! Go to http://www.stonebrewing.com/enjoyby/ for a breakdown

Two Hearted Ale - Bell's Brewery, Inc - Another IPA listed at 7%. Another highly rated beer that is pretty available in Chicago but brewed in Michigan. This beer is interesting because its not your typical IPA, because its 'fruitiness' comes from grapefruit rather than the citrus you normally taste in IPAs. The Bells Brewing company is one I've come to enjoy. Don't be afraid to try anything by them, its all good.

Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale - Stone Brewing Co. - This is a Black Ale, but was listed at the bar as an IPA. Not sure if any of you have got to try Dubhe after i reviewed it last month but I thought it would be similar to Dubhe. I was wrong. Its a good beer but not worthy of the 94 it got on Beeradvocate.com. Pretty simple roasted flavor, but nothing else special like with what i got with Dubhe. Overall, in a word it was "meh" for what i was expecting.

Not sure if we have any imperial stout drinkers in the house but i'm throwing myself into the game this winter. These are some of the most complex beers in the world when made right. I'm new but i reviewed the goose island imperial stout most recently and i had to start trying more. Next try was...

Imperial Stout - Mendocino Brewing Company - 10% - Only got an 87 on beeradvocate but i'm new to this game and i gotta say, if THIS is an 87 i can't imagine how good these beers can get! These stouts are awesome in the winter, make me feel like i'm sitting next to the fireplace or something gay (merry) like that. Since i'm new to this beer i'll steal a review off the site for those of you who are curious.

"MASSIVE chocolate and coffee notes, hints of charcoal. Heavy body, almost oily. Dark tan head, creamy. Damn well a beer you can dip a cigar in. Moderate bitterness for balance. Would go great over a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Heavy, complex, near-perfection. One of my favorite imperial stouts for sure."

Honestly, these imperial stouts are like a dessert after a heavy meal.

Lastly, I haven't posted any, but i've been getting into Belgians some and had a really good one.

Tripel Karmeliet - Brouwerij Bosteels - 8.4% (low for a belgain tripel) Tripels are notoriously alcoholic and can approach 12 / 13%, but the best ones hide it, making them sipping beers. The flavors are complex, spicy and fruity usually with a sweet finish. What gives a beer the distinct 'belgian' taste is the belgain candy sugar they use which lightens the beers taste and makes for more complex smells / tastes. This one is always on tap at W.O.B. and it is awesome every time. For the guys here who enjoy a rich beer and not just your standard pale all or lager, go find a belgian tripel and I think you'll enjoy it. I haven't really found a bad one.
