  • The writing is on the wall for everyone to read. Soon there will be 4 16 team super conferences. Conferences are going to look very different.

    This

The PAC 12 will want to get to sixteen and you have to think they will make a strong run at Texas and OU... if that happens the Big 12 is toast. However if Texas wont leave then the Pac 12 will probably pick off some MWC teams and the ACC is in much worse shape

  • What a mess. They should never have left in the first place.

I don't think Texas will leave the Big 12(-2) they have so much power now they would be giving it up if they join the Pac

I agree... but I think if the PAC gets Oklahoma and Okie state on board they may have to take another look

Does anyone know if the Longhorn Network provides guaranteed money? If so, Texas probably won't give that up anytime soon. Plus, the Longhorn Network is ESPN, while Pac 12 TV deal is with Fox. Not sure ESPN would let them out at this point. Although, the Longhorn Network isn't doing that well, so who knows.

Isn't it a 10-15 year contract as well

So far the Longhorn Network is a complete failure. The last I heard Verizon Fios, AT&T U-Verse and a couple of small regional cable companies were all that carried it. If ESPN doesn't have an out clause somebody's getting fired. I know LHN was a hold up last time they tried to join the Pac-12, but something tells me they could work something out now.

I think you're right that something could be worked out, like spinning the LHN into a Big 12 network of some kind. I don't think ESPN wants to lose Texas to Fox though, but I might be wrong. Fox seems to be making a big push into college football. Wish Fox would have done that when the Big 8 expanded to the Big 12.

The Pac-12 still has a relationship with ESPN though. I believe Fox gets first tier rights, but the Pac-12 Network itself is owned entirely by the league.

  • The Big East just needs to end. They are absolutely pathetic from a football stand point and they are losing teams to the ACC in basketball. Boise and the other schools should have to pay double to get back into their original conferences good graces.

How long until Fox creates their own "College Game Day" and attempts to take the college football market from ESPN? It could be soon... they already have Erin Andrews to head it up

Hopefully, very soon, like next year!

  • What a clustercensored.

I feel sorry for teams like San Diego State, BYU, and Boise State; however, they just don't raise much national interest. They are dynamite inside their own areas (except SDSU), but don't carry any prestige outside of those niche geographical areas.

I think BYU and Boise State can bring about compelling stories to 'maybe' be considered by the Pac 12 or Big 12, but I don't think they have the cache, following, or 'fit' that a number of other schools do.

BYU and Boise State could also have some reasonable anti-trust possibilities if this current movement really does move to Super Conferences and they are left on the outside looking in.

It will certainly be interesting to see how all this turns out.

Caught that as well. Sure we could field a team though shrug
