That said does anyone know why we make a point of going after big guys to the point where they may not be flexible enough to play cb in the long run?

Didn't see a whole lot except speed. Maybe he will come along. Seems a little soft.

I really, really like the films of D. Martinez.. probably at safety, but the kid is a terrific football player, and he is quite a lot bigger than Taylor, who was 178 lbs at the same age.

He could be one of those massive, fast guys that dominates at LB. He really likes to punish people.

I thought we played "pattern-match zone"? Conceptually I get the idea of what it is but in practice I still don't really understand it.

Perhaps this shift to bigger corners is a sign that we are moving to a more traditional zone heavy defense to help with the run game.

His coach also said Alabama was close to offering.

zones have shifting (strong side, weak side) principles to them. It all depends on if you're doing quarters coverage, cover 3, cover 2, man-under, cover 4, weak-side zone blitz, safety-zone blitz, cross-dog zone blitz... all those things. You get creative with zone, it's easier to disguise... man to man and match-up zone isn't disguised much, just line up and beat em. Match-up zone confuses college QBs a lot because QBs either think it's a pure zone or pure man-to-man and they hold the ball to long or throw the ball the wrong place.

Kirk Cousins got confused by it a TON, he kept thinking we were running cover two, or man-under and kept trying to go over the top in 2011. didn't work. When match-zone is run well, it's the toughest defense to pass against, but is easier to run against. You don't blitz much out of match-zone, when you blitz out of match-zone you usually turn it into straight up man to man.

Same thing applies to browner he wouldn't be in the nfl if he wasn't 6'3 and 230the lbs. Also don't take this as argumentative

not taken as such... Browner's the exception, not the rule. Browner plays in a cover 2 concept which allows him to come up and make hits more often than turning and running with receivers. He's a really good DB in the red zone and has above average ball skills. These are all things Boaz could possess, but his athleticism isn't like Browners at this point. We'll see.
