Bo to?

  • I'm kinda surprised the talk hasn't started yet about the possibility of Bo leaving for _________. Opening. Just about a month ago everyone was taking about who they wanted to replace him. Now there will be several big name openings, and he will be linked to about every one. There is a reason for that. He is a very good coach. Hopefully on his way to a great one. I for one hope he is around for a very long time. GBR beat Minnesota!

Not trying to stir anything. I'm relatively new to this board, just trying to gauge the vibe of the room. Plus its kinda nice to change the subject a bit from time to time.

See that's the problem, he isn't linked to any of them. No major program wants him as a Head Coach.

  • My quick 2 cents

Bo loves it here. N is a good job. He will stay unless he gets an offer that significantly tops N.

Those jobs are very few. Jobs that might take Bo elsewhere:

OSU, LSU, Texas, Georgia, Schools in Florida( already turned Miami down) and USC. Thats pretty much it. Bo would be a great fit at USC but i never see them offering. Texas wants someone with more texas roots. Florida is spoken for. Georgia...idk anything about them to be honest, Ohio State is taken care of.

The biggest fear i have is Les Miles leaving for the pro game. Pelini would likely jump at the opportunity to coach at a school that can recruit like that.

I feel you are spot on with your statement here. I do
Think that if he was offered enough money at Tennessee he would think real hard about it. Ultimately i don't think he will want to rebuild anywhere though. I think that is why we keep him.

  • Ya, i agree, i think he has earned the right to not rebuild again, at least never rebuild like he had to here. Tennessee would be just as bad. Don't see him going there. Good place but N is just as nice. Actually, Tennessee is incredibly similar in terms how the state approaches their football. Maybe a little bit more redneck, but all in all, its a good football state.

  • If I'm not mistaken, this topic comes up roughly every other week in some form or fashion.

Rumors fly around regarding coaches from all kinds of sources, whether justified or not.

As for Bo, I gotta believe he feels he is on the brink of breaking through and building something special here at Nebraska. If he were to go to Arkansas, or Auburn, or Tennessee in the SEC, he'd have to deal with the likes of Alabama, LSU, Florida, and Georgia on an annual basis at programs on the bare dirt level in that league right now.

In the Big 10, he is really looking at competing with Ohio State and Michigan in the near and foreseeable future. Wisconsin and Michigan State look like they will be contenders here and there, but we can recruit better than those schools.

In the SEC he knows he would be entering a league in which 'recruiting' takes on a whole new meaning. At Arkansas and Auburn, that very likely means things that he likely wouldn't want to do in order to be successful in that conference. At Tennessee, he would be rolling into a situation that is likely even worse than the one he rolled into at Nebraska. Not to mention, all of those programs are simply begging for NCAA sanctions right now.

If Bo were to leave for Arkansas, Auburn, or Tennessee, then I'd really question why he would leave. He would basically be saying that Nebraska isn't a destination job, and one would also have to question his character in moving on to any of those schools. IF that were his choice, I'd have no problems in letting him go. However, I really don't see that happening as Bo speaks of character and doing things the right way all the time. He would be putting his reputation on the line in taking the head coaching gig at those schools.

  • Recruiting would be night and day different from Auburn to Nebraska.

The AD's are night and day different in the "rules" and how to follow them per the NCAA

He would take over top flight talent at the likes of Auburn (look what he did with BC's kids early)

Now I am not saying he would go, nor do I wan't him too. I like Bo and I have written several posts about it the last month or so on here.
