Big Ten wont let schools schedule FCS schools anymore

    Absolutely. No one feasts on the IAA's the way the SEC does. Add that to only a very few intersectional games on their part, many of which are played at "neutral" fields. Let's see the SEC give up the IAA's and the late season byes.

  • Way too much is being made of this. Instead of playing South Dakota State we'll play Arkansas State, big deal. It's not like the Big 10 schools are going to go out and replace FCS schools with Alabama.

    This is true for us.
    This won't have much impact on the big boys. The Nebraska's, Ohio State's and Michigan's. Those schools can all pay for play.

    What this will hurt is the lower to middle half of the conference that can't afford to do that. it will force them into more home and home or 2 for 1 situations. It will force them to play opponents in the Sun Belt or WAC or MAC who stand a much better chance (than an FCS school) to beat them

  • The big issue will be maintaining the mandatory 7 home game schedule, whoever you are playing.

    Once the B1G goes to a 9 or 10 game conference schedule, finding opponents with fewer dates to work with could be tough. It's not easy as it is.

    Very true.

    The other thing no one has mentioned yet...is when someone backs out on you at the last minute and you don't have many options on the table to choose from scheduling wise.

    Beat better opponents to be a better team. Plain and simple. We have to be better at competing with the best in our conference if we want to be elite again. There are more than enough non AQ FBS teams to play OOC, especially if we move to a 10 game conference schedule.

    Moving TO's 10 game conference schedule is shy this is bad. Makes things real difficult to schedule for the lower tier teams in the conference. They are going to have to pay a million plus for home game (which most can't afford) or go to home and homes which will also hurt revenue because it decreases the home games in a season in a given year.

    People think tha would inspire the if ten to schedule more games against other bcs conferences. It won't. The rich will play sun belt type teams because they can afford to pay them. The poor wont gave that luxury. It will hurt the perceived strengthof the league because it won't do anything at the top but it'll turn some 6-6 or 7-5 teams into 5-7 or 6-6 type teams. It will inevitably cost the big ten a bowl spot or two in given years.

    Good news is. It's only been discussed. I know a few media members don't think it will go through

    Good news is Ohio State is no longer on probation, opening up a bowl spot. Penn State? [facepalm] (Big 10 honestly looked at booting them.)

    If you can't see this as a continued power play from Delany, then I'll try to put if forth for you.

    'They' want a 4 team playoff with zero uppance to the Rose Bowl?

    Fine.

    Delany raises them New York and the upper Northest along with the DC and Baltimore area from a TV set and revenue arena.

    You think Maryland and Rutgers don't mean jack? I'll give the minions a little more of my love in not allowing my teams to schedule them, and oh by the way, we'll be scheduling 9 or 10 games here in the Big 10.

    If you don't read that as a 'separation' from the others and putting a strong foot down as the biggest player in the business, then I'm not sure what more I can tell you.

    The B1G is the most financially and soundly founded conference in the country. Results on the field do matter, but in the end it is about power and money, and the B1G does have it in Spades.

    The SEC started the expansion to 12. The B1G started the anarchy and will get to 16 if not 18 or 20.

    The rest of the country pissed off the wrong guy.
