Big Ten alignment rumor

  • Im suprised the conf. would put Mich/O st in the same division? Thought they didn't want that from the start?

I think they finally realized the mistake they made.

  • I would be alright with this. Makes a little more sense then before. I wonder if PSU will remain our cross division rivals.

Id be fine with this. Better than the other teams they'd pair with us probably

    IDWIW

  • probably switch to Michigan or osu since they will both be in need of new one since they were each others

  • Do we have to have a cross divisional team locked? I think a regular rotation is just fine.

  • I don't want this alignment, I like what we have now.

I don't think the idea that the "west" division has better depth holds true.... Iowa, Minny, and Illinois aren't going to field any contenders within the next 5 years, if ever.... NW has a 10-15 year window of success with Fitz at the helm, but how likely is it that they maintain that over the next 50 years? MSU and Wiscy should be solid, but aren't ever going to be annual BCS contenders. Wisconsin is the closest thing to it, but nobody really knows what is going to happen with Wiscy's new coach, they could be on a 5 or 10 year skid for all we know. And its not like they have 50 years of success to look back on like NU or the top-3 from the other division.

The east division will always have nationally intriguing division races with tOSU, UM, and PSU. And then there is Rutgers, who has as much of a chance (probably better) to sustain long-term success as NW, Iowa, or even MSU.

This alignment would also kill any chance of a rivalry forming between NU and UM. And possibly kills the rivalry with PSU if they chose not to keep the cross-over game, like they have considered.

    /end rant

As far as the Black Friday game, I would love for PSU or Wiscy to take Iowa's spot if thats how the divisions are worked out.... I've also wondered about not locking in an opponent if no other team wants to make it permanent. It could simply become a Nebraska tradition, not a NU v Iowa or NU v PSU tradition, by rotating our Black Friday opponents from year to year. IDK, just a thought.

No, the INS isn't chasing him; Taylor Martinez just runs like that. . . .

Delaney/B10 probably still want them in separate divisions, but tOSU and UM fans don't.

  • I was pumped for the post thanksgiving border war with Iowa. But after 2 games the "feeling" going into that matchup has been blah...

That game should have division title implications most years and I'm not sure Iowa can get to that level consistently.

Wisconsin make perfect sense for our black Friday matchup.

Would LOVE to see that happen..

  • I don't like losing Michigan and don't understand that move either. Losing Penn State makes sense cause of their concern with travel and wanting east coast partners.

    602Husker

  • I've said it forever i honestly think Wisconsin vs Nebraska can be a way better rivalry than us and Iowa

Im kind of with you on the whole rivalry aspect. But when that playoff rolls around, our only objective should be to get there. If that is how the divisions shake out we have a VERY VERY good chance to being the conference title game year after year. If we win that more often than not.....we will be in the playoff. That will be the biggest recruiting tool moving down the road. getting there. Then again if the voters have anything to do with ESPN, only SEC schools will play for the title.

  • Imagine if we play Wisconsin on Friday after Thanksgiving and then OSU and Mich the next day. B1G would own the weekend. I would have to think that sounds attractive to the big shots.

I think a NU v PSU matchup would give the B10 a better chance of having a nationally relevant weekend. Then match Wiscy with Iowa or MSU.

There are a lot of other games that weekend that would draw a lot more national interest than NU v Wiscy.

    Auburn v Bama
    FSU v UF
    Clemson v South Carolina
    Georgia v GT
USC v Notre Dame or UCLA

Even the Texas v TCU, Oregon v Oregon St, & OU v Oklahoma St games are as nationally intriguing as NU v Wisc, imo.
