  • What do you think of the scores, Zonie? I just glanced at the grades, I'll go back and read the explanations now. Interested to know what you think, though.

  • They put the scores in context of a 10-3 season. When the defense was decent they were a potent team, when the defense went in the toilet they were very bad. All, in all, I think the ratings are fair. After all, Michigan didn't win the Legends Divison ...that is context.

I think I know what you mean here, but in reality I don't think the D was "Jekyll and Hyde". I think there were significant weaknesses on D that some teams/coaching staffs were able to exploit and others weren't.

You can break the weaknesses on D down in many different ways, but, the basic issue was that when a quick runner broke contain and got any one of our D players in space we usually did not close well, and when we did close we could not make the tackle.

Focus and execution. Do I sound like Bo?

  • I don't take issue with any of the grades, either. Thought the point of ball security keeping them from an 'A+' was an extremely valid point. Imagine what that unit would have looked like with even HALF the amount in turnovers. Sigh.

tackling... tackling... tackling. In the OSU and UCLA games we had guys in position many times that failed to make tackles and we didn't rally to the ball. In the Wisconsin game it was a combination of mixed tackles and being out of position. I have to think we are more well prepared and focused for this game. It's starting to feel like game week.

  • This sounds like my assessment.

    Overall: B

The embarrassment of the Big Ten title game loss lingers, but this team still won 10 games and captured the Legends Division this season. The Huskers lost only one league game during the season, though it was another bad blowout in Columbus. They beat Wisconsin (in the regular season) and Michigan after losing to both teams last year and staged some thrilling comebacks to win at Northwestern and at Michigan State. Only fans who have been spoiled by decades of success could complain about a 10-3 season. Yet it's impossible to ignore the feeling that this team was capable of so much more this year, especially with the Rose Bowl bid right there for the taking against a 7-5 team in Indianapolis. Given the expectations and the firepower of the offense, this season can't rate as much higher than a "B" level.

Yep. I thought the article was spot on. I wouldn't have rated it higher then a B either. I hate having to be this upset about a 10 win season.

  • Grades are fair--although considering the poor performance of the kick return game, special teams could have been given a "C" in my view.

I doubt there are many 10 win teams that would get a B. The expectations were high and rightfully so. A win vs Wisconsin would of jumped us all the way up to an A. B is a very fair grade.

If we beat Georgia will it make this season a B+ or A-?

For me probably a B+. I would really want to give an A-, but I don't think you can get above an A without a conference championship. Especially the way this season set up

couldn't go into the A area... even A- for me after giving up 63 and 70 respectfully. Maybe a B+ with a win over Georgia, but nothing more.

I don't think we will beat Georgia, but if we did I would upgrade my assessment of this team quite a bit. Nothing quite takes away the embarrassment of the Wisconsin loss because of the complete failure of the team to take advantage of a great opportunity and the way we were manhandled physically, but it would be an 11 win season with a major win against a first-rate SEC opponent.

Even though our O was good this past season, it was never as good as it can be. Taylor, Turner and Braylon are not even close to their ceilings as football players. If we are to win, it would almost surely be because our O played a nearly flawless game. I think there is still a lot of potential upside to our O, and a win against GA would prove that.

Our D has to play well, too. I do not think they can contain GA's O, but if they are able to slow them down enough to allow us to win the game, I would have to say it shows a lot of grit, determination and pride.

I would give them an A- for the season if they win this game.

    ElCaminoHusker

  • People must think we should get an A+. I had some upvotes for my post and it's getting downvoted now.

Would love to see more arguments for a higher rating.

  • A grade of C

Got blown out twice, lost to UCLA. Needed to come back way too many times in Conference play. Don't care what happens in the Bowl game, means nothing.
