I thought Garrison was really doing well. If Cotton left wouldn't Garrison be interested in having the line to himself?

Marrow would be the biggest loss there I think.

Agree. If this did happen and Garrison gets the reins of the O line it would be a good idea to bring in a coach to help him out.

  • MK, Thanks for the response. More than I can seem to get from a lot of people here.

COULDN'T recruit any worse - I'd call that an exaggeration. Bo struggle in the first 2 years here to recruit talent. We agree upon that. I'm not sure what you think of the last couple years in recruiting but I would call them a success. I think we are bringing in the right kinds of talent now. What we see in the depth chart though is lack of depth because of 08 and 09. I agree its frustrating, but its an area I've seen continuous growth. I believe that any new coach is going to have a learning curve when it comes to recruiting to a school such as Nebraska. Its not easy.

COULDN'T handle his roster any worse + COULDN'T mismanage his roster any worse - Not sure what the difference is here and don't really know what you are pointing to so i'll put it on the back burner.

COULDN'T have any more of an undisciplined team - This teams lack of discipline ON THE FIELD is concerning. It is my biggest complaint over the 5 years Bo has been here. OFF the field discipline is one of the greatest parts about this program right now. Bo has raised the bar in the classroom and as citizens. He is building men. Nebraska football holds a great amount of pride in academics and Bo exemplifies that point.

The qb depth/experience - Not going to harp on this too much, could write a book on it from both perspectives by now. Taylor has shown growth and is a leader of this team now. I think we like the depth that we will have in the future. Taylor will have played more games at QB that any other qb in Nebraska history and after that you will see better depth. Playing the backup more is not a big deal to me. Taylor needs to grow too. Everyone knows that so it confuses me when the people saying Taylor needs to improve are the same ones calling for the backup to get reps in end of game situations.

PJ and Eric - Both have been on the field for 3 years. They are flourishing this year. What makes you think they could have flourished 2 years ago? Martin is an athlete that took some time to find his home position. Glad he did. That is hard to do. I think Pelini should be given credit for taking a guy who was a LB when he arrived and turning him into a top B1G D End. PJ smith has played for 3 years now and was not nearly as disciplined 2 years ago as he is today. We both know that Safety is a crucial piece to Bo's system and the detail it takes to perform at a high level. It takes time. There are few players that could execute what Bo wants that position to execute in year 2 in the program.

Jamal Turner - A QB playing WR as a freshman is something i agree with you on. He should have RS'd. I think he is on his way now but I think we could have handled his situation a little better. Right now I'll go aboard with you here. It is worth noting that we have plenty of talent at WR...more so than at any other time in Nebraska's history. (Thank you Bo)

Coaching is a hard thing to do. Nebraska is one of the most difficult places to coach in the world. Bo is young for a head coach, but has a great mind for football. He is inexperienced. It shows. We agree that there are things he would do differently, looking back at his first 5 years. I think it is in the programs best interest to invest in people and help them grow. We ask our coach to do that with our team and we should allow him the same opportunity. I believe he has shown growth in several areas, and I hope to see that continue. If I see it stop I'll be the first to call for his job. Until then I'm behind him.

    Hopefully Bo

Hopefully we get to a BCS game, win or lose there, some SEC school likes what they have seen and offers, then Perlman and Eichorst dont give Bo his standard raise and 1 year extension, completely pissing him off, so he goes looking like he did before and then he either

takes a job or Eichorst says that BS ain't gonna work with me, see ya later

We will be significantly better off as a program when he leaves

I hear what you are saying. I hope we win out.

Do I think that Bo is going to take us back to elite status - NO. my opinion. You do - YOUR OPINION.

What i see after 5 years is that a new coach

    couldn't recruit any worse
couldn't handle his roster any worse
couldn't mismanage his roster any worse
couldn't have any more of an undisciplined team

please tell me what a new coach couldn't do that Bo has done.

    I say nothing

    Some Highlights

In year 4 we had 2 scholarship QB's and 1 with playing experience JOKE
In year 5 we still have 1 qB with real experience
Eric Martin and PJ Smith have been 2 of our best defensive players this year, yet it took 5 years to get them on the field.
4 years of Kyler Reed not being a part of the offense
2 years of Jamaal turner being underutilized
5 years of burned redshirts and wasted eligibility.

I could go on and on

but again I ask, what of any of those above or the countless others, could a new coach not accomplish.

In the Big 10 a new coach is gonna win 9 games a year.

Bo has done nothing special NOTHING

This is a very good post. Sums up how I feel as well. Well done meyerkids. clap

Bo will leave first chance he gets. Mark it down.

This shows shortsightedness... who do we get to replace him? Eh? Who? Al Golden? My goodness Miami is fantastic with him as a head coach aren't they! How are we better off as a program without him? Were we better off in 2007? Why do want a coach to leave after he possible just took a team to an 11-3/12-2 record?

With all the mistakes and issues this team has... they would still have been 12-2... seriously? So if they suck at recruiting, suck at preparing, suck at coaching, suck at EVERYTHING, how do they go 12-2? Comeback once and it might be luck, twice and lightning could have struck twice... but 3 times. It shows something else. It shows that these kids love their coach and fight their tail off for him and their teammates.

Oh, and by the way, if he wins a B1G title here he will have accomplished something old Billy C never could, and would be on par with Franky as well.... (with a worse team to start with).

yeah. right. Because we could get anyone we wanted in 2004.

Urban Meyer's leaving Ohio State? Will Muschamp leaving Florida? Who exactly are you talking about "damn near anyone we want?" Nick Saban leaving Alabama? Chris Peterson isn't going to leave his job for this job. Neither is Gary Patterson? I guess you could get Derek Dooley if you wanted... you want him? Or how about Kirk Ferentz? I bet we could get him.

The mere fact that he has talked to anyone untreated should show you he isn't here for the long haul. At least he has done a good enough job not to get fired. Couldn't say that a few weeks ago.

Well I did. And it was a complete fail of a process by Steve. By Steve. Steve is not here anymore. So people should stop saying we have a mediocre job. And if you believe that, then agree that we have a mediocre coach that hasn't raised that bar.

The job is an above average job. It offers great resources like financial backing, facilities, and fanbase.

Its the recruiting that drops this JUST below that top tier of coaching jobs. We both know its a brutal school to recruit to based on perception. I love the state. Wouldn't mind living there (chicago born and raised) but the national perception and the expectations of the fanbase make this a hard place to work. Its a great place to work, but still...a hard place to work.

  • It's a good thing NE and Msu had coaching screw ups.

Winning the games we have won doesn't make us good

It makes us lucky to have beaten 3 very avg teams.

Do any of you really believe we are a top 15 team. REALLY?

Cuz we aren't. After year 5 we are still average

I pray we get a real team in a bowl. When we get our ass handed to us what will your excuse be then

    Let me guess-"it's a process"

Cally recruited just fine. It can be done. TO got the best talent nation wide. It can be done.

You probably settle for short an fat I assume. Because anything better would be a tougher get.
