Rummel tight end Cethan Carter verbally commits to Nebraska
Mike Strom, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune, January 18, 2013 9:27 a.m.
Rummel tight end Cethan Carter decided Thursday night that a bird in the hand was worth two in the bush.
So it was that Carter verbally committed to Nebraska late Thursday eschewing possible scholarship offers from LSU and Alabama.
Carter, the No. 13-ranked player in the State of Louisiana according to recruiting analyst James Smith, delivered his verbal pledge to Cornhuskers Coach Bo Pelini late Thursday night during a home visit, Rummel Coach Jay Roth said Friday morning. Carter and his mother Shelly made an official visit to Nebraska's Lincoln campus last weekend.
Pelini was accompanied on the home visit by Cornhuskers recruiting coordinator Terry Joseph and tight ends coach Barney Cotton. It was Joseph, a former Shaw standout and assistant coach at LSU, Louisiana Tech and Tennessee before moving to Nebraska, who recruited Carter
Nebraska was "where I felt comfortable,'' Carter said Friday morning. "I liked the way they use the tight ends in their offense. I like the academics there. I loved the atmosphere. My mother loved it just as much as I did, especially the academics. I just felt good there.''
Carter, 6-foot-4, 235 pounds, with 4.6 speed in the 40, is fully qualified academically with a 21 on the ACT and the necessary core grade-point-average, Roth said.
An athletic versatile player who was used at tight end, fullback and H-back, Carter was becoming a hot property as of late, adding an official offer from Miami to go with those from the Cornhuskers, LSU and UL. Texas, which visited Rummel on Thursday, and Arkansas also sought official visits from Carter.
Carter was scheduled to visit UL this weekend, LSU on Jan. 28 and possibly Alabama the weekend thereafter, Roth said, but those visits will be cancelled. LSU's scholarship offer was for its 2014 recruiting class and would require Carter to grayshirt in the upcoming fall semester.
Miami's offer was extended Friday morning by assistant coach Mario Cristobal, Roth said
"In the deed, the glory"
So what we are saying with this thread is that bc should be credited for the carter #boom. Who said barney can't recruit.
