Arkansas gets Johnson's teammate

  • Just posting this here. High School teammate of Dwayne Johnson flipped from Houston to Arkansas early this morning.

Bellaire, Texas, running back Denzell Evans commits to Arkansas

Arkansas landed one of its two targets from Bellaire, Texas, on Sunday when running back Denzell Evans committed to the Razorbacks. Get inside for more.

  • Damn. Hopefully that doesn't impact Johnson's decision.

  • Not looking good huh!

  • Well darn. Not the best news of the morning. I think there are a lot of forces pulling johnson to arkansas. Really feel the coaches have done all they can but may not be enough to counteract these forces. Until i hear differently though i will keep my finger crossed.

  • I knew this was going to happen. Not a big shocker. This shouldn't have much of an effect on Johnson.

If it does I'll be making my way toward Fairbury

  • I don't anticipate this being a strong enough reason alone. Could be another pro in the Arkansas column though.

  • I don't think the "close to Momma" idea is that big of a pull either. It's like 550 miles from Bellaire to Fayetteville. Still a long way to trek 3 or 4 weeks in a row to see your kid play.

  • lost one recruit because of a teammate... i could see this happening in this situation as well. If Johnson picks Arkansas, i think it was this that was the determining factor. I really hope they're not that great of friends... the plus side is that Johnson was committed to Purdue before Evans committed anywhere.

Honestly, I think this is a recruiting tactic by Arkansas. They need linemen so they take their most highly regarded target's teammate in an effort to sway Johnson. i hope this doesn't matter as much as I think it might.

Because of this, i think Johnson waits till signing day to decide.

  • I think it's over for Johnson. He's already informed both coaching staffs. An Ark web site had an article with a title stating that he chose Ark but it quickly came down. I think that's very telling. Damn. Thought we had that kid.

They need lineman more than we do. That's bad. They are clawing at everything, just begged Hannon come visit again... He's N though.

unfortunately, i think you're right. Dang... johnson would have taken the sting off of a lot of the late losses... sounds like he's announcing Wednesday.

Of course... most of us had written off Kondolo to Tennessee before yesterday so anything can happen. shrug

The more I read/hear the more I think you are correct and he will pick Ark.

Afraid I have to agree. Certainly disappointing and depending on what rumor you want to believe some relatives played a huge part in this and not just mom and dad. Have to say I find that disappointing for an adult to do. After how excited he sounded after his visit to Lincoln, I really had my hopes up. However sense then it is like his uncle or coach has done all the talking. It is obvious where the coach wants him. I truly think the coaches did all they could on this one. Can't fault them.

once he didn't commit at the in-home after the visit it was an uphill battle. Nebraska was the team that convinced him to decommit from Purdue... then his family used that to get him to stay closer to home. Could all be wrong, but indications are that he will be a Hog. Sad for us, we have a decent OL class, his addition would make it really good.

Exactly. He would have been the cherry on top of this class but not to be. At least with this OT we know how it will end on NSD. I remember last year being so hopeful on Peat.

He would have really made it a very special OL class with the impact recruits we have already.

You are so right. That is what hurts about this one. Now I hope Finnan gets that third year in which case we have what amounts to 2 HS OT in this class.

  • Unless anything is solid I think everyone's jumping the gun a bit on this, he seemed to really enjoy his visit and if the rumors are true about him committing to us on the inhome visit even though family is still pushing him to Arky then maybe he just feels inside that he belongs here and will follow his heart....still hoping anyway.

I am too... like I said... everyone thought Kondolo was gone to Tennessee, see how that worked out. Hope he is N come signing day. I will be watching him and Veii with great interest on Wednesday... possible Scott soon as well. Looks like we CAN actually end with 28 if we bat a 1.000 on the final three... I think we get at least one... maybe 2.

    klein12

  • I think we get Veii and Johnson, would like to get Scott but just not getting a good feeling about it....maybe that's just because he was the quiet one over the weekend though who knows
