Analyzing our schedule

I would go with fortunate. We get high profile coaches in their first year coaching mediocre teams..

    Strength wise it is decent.

DA, What would you say the word to describe our out of conference schedule is? I'd chose the word decent.

I agree lots of fans like to puff up their chest and talk about us having a tough schedule, which makes me laugh. LSU had a tough schedule last year. I feel like we are favorites in all of our games and are able to win them all.

BTW in no way will we be favored in all of our games next go round..

To be fair, Southern Miss was a pretty good team last year. Arkansas State did win their conference, and UCLA has enough talent if they ever get the right coach.

I don't think you can name many top 25 programs that play any sort of tough ooc schedule.

    Many?

I'll go through teams with 'tougher' OOC schedules than Nebraska for 2012: Just in the ACC

    1. Boston College: Maine, Army, Northwestern, and Notre Dame.
    2. Clemson: Ball State, Furman, Auburn, and South Carolina
    3. Florida State: Murray State, Savannah State, South Florida, Florida
    4. Georgia Tech: Presbyterian, Middle Tennessee State, BYU, Georgia
    5. Miami(FL): Bethune-Cookman, South Florida, Kansas State, Notre Dame
    6. NC State: Citadel, South Alabama, UConn, Tennessee
    7. Virginia: Richmond, La Tech, Penn State, TCU
    8. Wake Forest: Liberty, Army, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame

And that is just the ACC. The Pac 12 always schedules tough, and the SEC schedules much tougher than the creme-puff type attitude that they get. Didn't 'Bama play at Penn State last year and LSU play Oregon and West Virginia?

I think this is a solid ooc schedule. Not too tough, but a real set up for the season. UCLA is talented and dangerous, especially in Pasadena. S.Miss is a quality non-BCS type team, and Arkansas State will give us a game.

We should win them all,but you never know. Lots of question marks as this season comes into focus.

  • I consider 10-2 the ceiling, 7-5 the basement. In truth, anything less than 9-3 and I'll be ticked...

Can you honestly NOT READ? Not many TOP 25 schools, you nit!

    1. BC is not a top 25 school.
    2. Ball State and Furman are jokes. Furman is a D-1AA program. Ball State is a mid-level MAC school. Auburn was not a good team last year, about on par with UCLA, and SC is an in-state rivalry game.
    3. Are you actually arguing that Murray State and Savannah State are tough opponents? if you play two D-IAA schools then the rest of your ooc won't make up for it. Florida was a break-even team last year and a traditional in-state rival. South Florida was not nearly as good as Southern Miss, and playing in the watered down BLeast. FSU was not top 25 last year.
    4. Again, how can you call that schedule tougher than Nebraska's? Presbyterian is D-iAA. MTSU finished 2-10 last season. BYU is no better than Southern Miss. Georgia is probably better than UCLA, but not by that much, and certainly not enough to make up for the fact that the rest of their ooc sucks by comparison. GT was not top 25 last year either.
    5. Well, now here you have me, but then again, Miami isn't going to be in anyone's top 25 this year.
    6. NCState? You have got to be kidding. Being #25 once in the last seven years does't make them a top 25 team this year by any stretch of the imagination.
    7. Virginia is not a top 25 team, and neither Richmond nor La Tech make their schedule tougher than our's.
    8. Wake Forest? You are really reaching here. Not a top 25 program. Liberty, Army, and Vanderbilt are not good teams, and Notre Dame does not make your non-conference schedule all that.

Sorry, my friend , you are wrong on all but perhaps Clemson, but of course, you didn't bother to address my contention. Few top 25 programs have a tougher schedule this year. So far you've named one and I said not many. I'm not finding many. hell, I'm not finding even one that's what anyone would call a tough ooc schedule.

Alabama: Georgia Southern(D-1AA), Kent State (5-7), North Texas (5-7), PSU
LSU: North Texas, Washington, Idaho (2-10), Towson (D-1AA)
OkieState: SavannahState (1-10, D-1AA), Arizona(4-8), UL-Lafayette (lost to Arkansas State last year 21-30)
Oregon: Arkansas State, FresnoState (4-9), Tennessee Tech (D-1AA)
Arkansas: JaxState (D-1AA), UL-Monroe (4-8 SunBelt), Tulsa (8-5 CUSA), Rutgers (four BLeast losses)
Wisconsin: Nolrthern Illinois(lost to Miami in the MAC CCG), Oregon State (3-9 lost to UCLA), Utah State (7-6 MWC), UTEP (5-7 CUSA)

I could continue, but those are the six top bowl teams from last year, and not one single one has scheduled any tougher than Nebraska has.

Top 25 teams are schedule about the same way; one tough BCS test, one mid-level tough test, one fairly easy lower tier FBS school, and one D-1AA team.

I can find a two dozen schools that won't get anywhere near the top 25 with tougher schedules, but so what? They aren't getting anywhere near the top 25.

Depends on when the spreads come out.

We could be favored in all but the OSU game, unless OSU is having a bad year. Same thing against Michigan, and Michigan is going to struggle with their schedule before they come to Lincoln.

The only other one we might not be favored in would be MSU.

We should be favored in every other game this year.

  • Some spreads are already out.

We are dogs to OSU, MSU and Michigan in the preseason spreads

Has absolutely nothing to do with what the spreads will be the week of any game.

It's all just guesswork right now.

Making MSU the favorite right now is totally ridiculous.

True...never got into preseason spreads much. Things can and will change.

But they were the better team last year and its on the road. They lost some good players, as did we. We each return approximately the same amount of starters. Tough to really justify us as a favorite as well.
