Analyzing our schedule

  • A bit early I know.

Two fairly tough games with UCLA on the road and we all remember what Southern Miss can do.

    Two Cupcakes.

Then a brutal couple of revenge filled contests Home against Wisky and on the road vs OSU.

A BYE week before a revenge game again as the Skers should look to embarass someone especially if they come up short in the first two revenge games and after a BYE

Michigan at home another revenge game (seems to be a common trend)

Michigan State... for them another revenge game.

Penn State at home doesn't scare me shouldn't be much of a revenge type of game

    Minnesota at home easy win.

Here may be the letdown if we have great success early on @Iowa.

I say we start 3-0 before dropping OSU.
Win vs NW before dropping another to Michigan .
Win out from there in a squeaker vs Iowa.

A 10-2 regular season. I could see very easily 9-3 or 8-4 but nebraskakoolaid Rocks!

I wouldn't call Arkansas State a cupcake. Gus Malzahn will have them ready to play.

If Arkansas State is not a cupcake for us, chances are that will mean we'll be pretty much like last year.

No, but if they do I'll be seriously worried about our season...

Malzahn or no, we SHOULD have the edge in athletics. At the worst, I expect to pull away in the fourth quarter when depth shows. Not worried about ArkSt.

  • Wouldn't think Malzahn would be able to make them a B1G caliber team on the road in one year...

    cpt27gsf

  • I dont think so either.

  • BTW who the heck are we referring to Gus as? The former Iowa State coach? lets not get ahead of ourselves here.....

We should only hope we score 16... with the defensive guru at the helm..

    Oh, come on now.

    Non-conference:

    2011
    Chattanooga - 40
    Fresno State - 42
    Washington - 51
    Wyoming - 38

    2010
    Western Kentucky - 49
    Idaho - 38
    Washington - 56
    SD State - 17

Other than the Jackrabbits, we've had no issue scoring against non-conference foes.

Hah. Sorry if I came on too strong. Wasn't looking for 'defeat,' just showing my side. We're good, 27!

Unnecessary! Beck will be calling the plays, not Bo. Offense will make huge strides from last season, for just so many reasons.

The won their conference and a bunch of games last year. They held their own. They have most of their talent back. Probably better than 5 or 6 of the teams in the B1G.

Uh, no. Maybe better than one or two of the B1G teams, at best. They were good in the Sunbelt, period. Illinois beat them 33-15 last year, and Illinois was beaten by Minnesota.

If they couldn't beat IL, they couldn't have beaten any other B1G squad, except perhaps IN.

Arkansas State better than 5 or 6 teams in the B1G? Outside of Minnesota (which is a maybe), who else you got?

As DA stated, Arkansas State got 'wrecked' by Illinois last year. They also lost to Viriginia Tech.

They rolled the Sunbelt and then got spanked by Northern Illinois by 18 in their bowl game. That same Northern Illinois team that lost to Kansas.

Malzahn will have a tough time finding a QB at ASU to run his offense first and foremost and we get them in the 3rd game of the season after they get whipped by Oregon in week 1.

I never understand why people always want to build up our 'tough' non-conference schedule when it is rarely ever tough.

To be fair, Southern Miss was a pretty good team last year. Arkansas State did win their conference, and UCLA has enough talent if they ever get the right coach.

I don't think you can name many top 25 programs that play any sort of tough ooc schedule.

  • DA, What would you say the word to describe our out of conference schedule is?
    I'd chose the word decent.

I agree lots of fans like to puff up their chest and talk about us having a tough schedule, which makes me laugh. LSU had a tough schedule last year. I feel like we are favorites in all of our games and are able to win them all.

I would go with fortunate. We get high profile coaches in their first year coaching mediocre teams..
