AJ Natter

  • Last year Paul Thurston was my guy that I didn't think got enough credit. This year I think that guy is none other than AJ Natter. Reminds me a lot of Randy Gregory with his size and speed. Blows guys up. Runs backs down from behind. Sprinter on his track team. The Composite #1 guy out of Wisconsin. And he is 100% Committed to Nebraska.

    The link talks about his track career and how his dad was a sprinter. There is also a cool video with him talking about it.

  • I think Natty Light is going to be a stud and big time contributor for our Huskers before all is said and done.

    While I don't want to put too high of expectations on him, he does remind me of Kyle Vanden Bosch. A workhorse with a high end motor.

    these last two classes have gotten me really excited with the amount of talent and athleticism coming in.

    There is little doubt in my mind that our coaches are looking for athletes and speed first and foremost.

    You look at guys like Alonzo Moore and Leroy Alexander, and they scream pure athletic talent. When you look at the slot receiver guys we are after, all have top end track speed.

    While it is always nice to get a football player with great football instincts, speed can overcome any a number of inadequacies. Especially if you have speed all throughout your roster and amongst your specialty players that aren't on your OL or a DT.

    Yep.

    Our recovery speed on defense was tough to watch this year. Especially on the perimeter.

    Wisconsin, of all schools, blitzed us with speed to the perimeter in the B1G Championship game.

    That just can't happen.

    You gotta have guys with foot speed at DE and at OLB to cover up mistakes. You also need guys in the secondary that can turn and run people down, or at the very least have the lateral movement skills to adjust and turn plays to the sideline or towards other players that can make the play.

  • I've expressed my enthusiasm for Natter on multiple occasions. It's based on his highlights which make him look like a professional playing among amateurs.

    Question is, will he see the field in '13?

    True freshman need to see the field more often. Period.

    I'm of the mindset that if players are remotely close in ability, and one guy is younger, you play the younger guy.

    True freshman need to see the field more so we can recruit and send that message that if you are good enough you will play.

    Not only do they completely rotate their roster on a 4 1/2 year basis (RS half, other half play), they land more players than we do and oversign.

    Bama and LSU are putting more Juniors into the NFL than anybody else. They are also winning more than everybody else.

    Maybe you're right. We RS everybody. Take classes of 20 or so every year, and compete with the SEC elite that bring in 25+ every year and rely upon our walk on program to fill the gaps while we coach up players better than everybody else.

    Sorry, but it is frustrating to see how far we are behind even the 2nd and 3rd level teams in the SEC.

  • I think we could do pretty well. We put up a good fight against a solid Georgia team and if we were in the SEC I imagine we could do a bit better in recruiting just given the conference affiliation....that said, I would never....NEVER...want to be a part of the $EC

    We got spanked by South Carolina last year.

    We would be at the Miss State level if I were honest. A good enough team to beat and celebrate the win, but the elite teams handle them rather handily.

    We'd be better than MIssouri, but not by much right now.

    Defintely don't see us ahead of Alabama, LSU, Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida.

    Could we have beat Miss State last year? Or Vandy? Or even Tennessee? Tough call if I am truthful with myself.

    I see us as middling in the SEC, and maybe even bottom 3rd right now.

    What team on a neutral field from the SEC would you guarantee a win? Missouri? Arkansas? Vanderbilt? Kentucky? Ole Miss? Tennessee?

    Pathetically we think the grind of the B1G schedule is tough. Can you imagine not getting breaks in playing teams like Minnesota or Iowa?

    We thumped a Georgia team, that was 4 yards away from going to the big one, for 3 quarters before wearing down. We should only be better this season. I aint afraid of the SEC. Mizzery level? Not a chance.

    Idk if there is really a right or wrong. I'm a little biased in my thinking for whatever reason. I think it is because freshman seem to struggle in our O and D. I know there are freshman that have to play based on need or skill. I for sure see what you are saying though.

    Yup for sure, you gotta love this claass of DE's!!! I think all of these guys have major talent, and I love the tenacity of AJ Natter. Reminds me a little of Cam when he was quicker, but Natter has a much higher ceiling IMPO.

    MUCH higher... he has a motor that beats motors. I heard someone compare him to Kyle Vandenbosch... i would agree.
