There is little doubt in my mind that our coaches are looking for athletes and speed first and foremost.
You look at guys like Alonzo Moore and Leroy Alexander, and they scream pure athletic talent. When you look at the slot receiver guys we are after, all have top end track speed.
While it is always nice to get a football player with great football instincts, speed can overcome any a number of inadequacies. Especially if you have speed all throughout your roster and amongst your specialty players that aren't on your OL or a DT.

True freshman need to see the field more often. Period.
It can only help recruiting and sending out a message that you can and will play as a true frosh at Nebraska.
I'm of the mindset that if players are remotely close in ability, and one guy is younger, you play the younger guy.
True freshman need to see the field more so we can recruit and send that message that if you are good enough you will play.
Grant Wistrom, Lawrence Phillips, Ralph Brown, Jay Foreman, Jason Peter, Ahman Green, Mike Brown, Eric Stokes, Carlos Polk and others played a number of minutes in their true freshman years amid National Title winning teams.
Alabama had 11 true freshman play significant minutes in their 2009 National Title winning season.
We have to put 2 to 3 true freshman on the field every year that make reasonable contributions. If not more. Not mop up time, but legit 1st half time against legit opponents.
Studs are built over multiple seasons of playing time. 3 to 4 years of playing meaningful minutes.

I am all for playing true frosh this season. The last couple seasons I've said sit them , give them that extra year to develop, and look to the future. Well the future is now boys. If they can come and contribute, play them. You can't forever just be building, you gotta be there eventually.
That said, I think AJ sits this year since we have Gregory coming in.

RS builds another class within a class as we are already behind when compared to teams like Alabama and LSU that oversign and play true freshman more often than we do.
Not only do they completely rotate their roster on a 4 1/2 year basis (RS half, other half play), they land more players than we do and oversign.
Bama and LSU are putting more Juniors into the NFL than anybody else. They are also winning more than everybody else.
Maybe you're right. We RS everybody. Take classes of 20 or so every year, and compete with the SEC elite that bring in 25+ every year and rely upon our walk on program to fill the gaps while we coach up players better than everybody else.
Sorry, but it is frustrating to see how far we are behind even the 2nd and 3rd level teams in the SEC.
