A line in the sand…

  • I’ve read elsewhere that, during his in-homes, Bo told both Walker and McWilson that “If you make these final visits, consider your scholarship offer rescinded”. If so, both young men have chosen to call him on his statement. Evidence of this could be the claims by Walker of negative recruiting by NU during Bo’s in home. Sour grapes.

Seriously, have we heard of that at all before? Why would it start now in relation to a good, but not great, wide receiver commit? It’s unlikely either kid would state “NU told me my offer was cancelled if I took this trip. I didn’t believe them. Well, now I know.”

This could go a few directions, but if true:

Is NU now, or will it ever be, in a position to tell this to commits? Should they? Is Bo just tired of all this self aggrandizing, spotlight hustling behavior? Should it be accepted as a fact of life among this generation? Should commits always be given one more chance? Does Bo ever say “Fish or cut bait”.

If true, is this needless over-reaction? How does NU become a serious program without taking itself seriously?

I believe Bo doing this now could elevate the level of clarity and significance of future discussions. If it is known that NU takes commitments seriously there is no uncertainty on either side. The outcome will be beneficial to future commitment conversations.

  • Nice write up sir. Interesting.

Ill wait on my response. There are certainly many ways to look at this one and I may have to wait a while to decide which one I feel is best for us at this point in time.

  • Doubt Bo said that... I'm sure he told them that he didn't consider them committed if they took those visits, and that they'd have to recommit if they took them.

  • I've got a dumb question, Bo would be the party telling the kid that a schollie will be or has been pulled, right? Then how does information like this leak out. Is it the kid or family saying this because I highly doubt given Bo's record of not being a media darling that he's out there broadcasting this type of information. Help me to understand.

It's not accurate info... no offers have been pulled.

I never said it was accurate. I was answering how the info could get out.

Are you speaking of the short story written by Peter Dragin?

  • I find it hard to believe Bo would actually say this. I agree with klein saying the staff just wouldn't consider them a commit anymore and they would have to recommit, but I would highly doubt the offer would be completely pulled.

  • Perhaps what I read was wrong. The guy's been spot on on many occasions. Time will tell, and we may never know.

Personally, I'm ready for someone to reality check these drama queens. If it's not the case, it still doesn't discount some of my questions.

And no, I'm not familiar with Mr. Dragin's ouevre.

  • I don't think this can be accurate. If Bo had said this then why the second in home with Walker after the Auburn visit. Bo is the type of guy who backs up what he says. If he did tell Walker that then you would have to make the assumption that Bo knowingly pussed out on his own word. I just don't see this happening, Bo's ego wouldn't allow it.

yeah... he didn't say that. I don't think he strong arms recruits like that, given what most recruits say about his laid back style. He likely just told them the truth, if you are taking other visits you aren't committed to us. Completely different than pulling a guys offer. If either of their offers were pulled they would just flip.

I think Bo is pragmatic rather than ego-driven when it comes to these types of situations.

I am sure he pulled lil' Gabberts offer when he kept showing up in Columbia with the Mizzou coaching staff draped all over him, but before he arrived on campus Gomes did something that really pissed Bo off (not sure what it was) so Bo asked to watch his films again. He watched Gomes' films for a couple of minutes and decided we needed him.

So, I think Bo definitely factors in a player's ability to help the program on the field in the way he handles situations with that player and/or recruit.
