  • I think the Nebraska dynasty was from 1993 to 2002. Alabama is only in the middle of its run. Alabama may win several more national titles with Saban as HC. The Alabama dynasty/train isn't slowing down. Remember, next year's Alabama is supposed to be better than this year's version. I think it is premature to begin the conversation/comparison.

great article. and yea Bama will be good for a while. If they win next year I will willfully hand the crown over. They would have deserved it. And after I get past the bitterness of not being the best run in college football history anymore....I will appreciate all the greatness the Bama has pulled off. Rarely do we see greatness in action. People should appreciate what is going on.

Impossible. Two entirely different eras with hard to quantify qualifiers. Does that make sense? The BCS era is a train wreck with nowhere near an even playing field and I'm allowing for flexibility in money, roids, and schollies.

  • I am making the comparison because this morning i saw the headline on ESPN "Greatest CFG Team in History?" and also this morning i saw "Nick Saban the Greatest College Coach of All-Time?" ... etc. also i am making the comparison because its the first team since Nebraska to win a NC 3 out of 4 years... I understand that our "dynasty" lasted for 10+ years

this team has a loss. they arent the best team. unless they were meaning Alabama as a program. there might not ever be a team as good as our 95 team. They just demolished anyone that stepped on the field with them. And if Saban stays on this track I have no problem saying he is the best ever. And I say that as someone who lives next door to T.O.

  • We went undefeated when winning those three national titles.

Alabama has gone 49-5 in the last 4 years.
We went 49-2 over the same course of time.

They've gone 61-7 over the last 5 years. We went 60-3.

They defeated a Colt McCoy-less Texas, a rematch v. LSU in a year when they didn't win their division, and a Notre Dame team that barely beat Purdue, BYU, and Pitt.

We defeated the Miami frigg'n Hurricanes, CRUSHED next year's national champions and Heisman winner, and then crushed Peyton Manning and the Vols.

I was probably willing to hand it to USC back in '05 had they of beaten Texas, but I just don't think Bama has earned it.

  • Is Alabama's 4-5 year run as impressive as Nebraska's? No. It is close but the answer is no. There isn't an Alabam team that will be considered among the best ever like the 1995 Huskers. But like I said, Alabama's run is midstream at the moment. If Saban coaches for the next 5 years, I wouldn't be surprised if Bama won at least 3 more titles. Nebraska's Dynasty is/was awesome but that shouldn't prevent you from appreciating what Alabama has done. Nebraska won its titles in 1994 and 1997 without playing the #2(or #1) ranked team to settle the matter on the field and Nebraska shared 1997 with Michigan. There are some buts for Nebraska as well.

  • According to this POLL ... the country thinks Alabama is hands down better than Nebraska's 4 year stretch... shrug ... so much football ignorance and probably so many voters less than 20 years old.

    Yup.

To be fair also, our run was a while ago so people forget. In general, people are more apt to be high on the latest and greatest thing going.

I happen to disagree with the people in this poll, but just some perspective.

  • That repeated "They won on the field not the voting booth" line by Mussburger is BS and made me want to pukeface They would not have been in the game without the "voting booth." We also learned last night that nothing matters before the "BCS" era. Oh well.

You live next door to TO? Tell him I said hi. biggrin

Saban would have to be at Bama for another 10years and would have to win at least 9games a year for 20 years before he can even enter the same room as TO. Just saying

It requires some historical perspective and this is why it's nearly impossible to have an intelligent conversation about the state of college football. The replies are tantamount to #$%& you and scooorboard!!

My pleasure. What we see in the SEC is the guy who takes everything too far and ruins it for the rest.

I saw that too. ESPN shoving the "SEC Dominance" down everyone's throat helps their cause too. Nebraska has never been the PR machine that USC, Michigan, Alabama, Ohio State are. Perception is reality.

That phrase was so incredibly shallow. Whatever i guess. If he values the credibility that statement earned with mouth breathers then thats his business.

I think his beef goes back to the early 80's when cbs sports (i believe) tried to nail N for roids. TO dominated them and he's been butt hurt ever since. The main reporter was a woman f i remember correctly.

there should be attached poll with an age range. i'd suspect it would look something like this:

    0-20: 70%
    20-40: 15%
    40-60: 10%
    60+: 5%

Yup you are absolutely right: night and day; apples and oranges! We all do that in all sports! These things are unique thus "dynasty" or dynasties!

Like all things it will come to pass. It's Bama's time, their turn and they are rolling and beat ND like they stole something; something we Huskers can relate to this year!
