7 Straight, When Does It End?

  • My SEC exhaustion has likely met its limit.

    7 Natty's in a row.

When the chips are on the line, the only teams that are competitive with the SEC's best are other SEC teams.

The rules have to change. I'm not whining, I'm just asking for everybody to play by the same goddamn rules.

The Gray Shirts, the Medical Hardships, the back-counting, the non-renewals of scholarships, it all stinks to high heaven and it all needs to change or this will happen over, and over, and over, and over again.

    censored I'm tired of it.

Damn, I feel like a Kansas football fan right now.

  • Skerz, I'm right there with you. Unfortunately, the narrative will be about how great the SEC is and how great Alabama is instead of the disparity in recruiting among conferences.

  • Back counting, kinda like how our staff was planning & still would take 27-28 kids.

Grayshirts, kinda like Bronson Marsh, David Sutton.

Medical Hardships like Jesse Coffey, Blake Lawrence.

Why does everyone complain about these things. Did you know from 1993-1997 we signed 109 kids... Did you know after each year Dr. Tom would sit down with 3rd-5th stringers and encourage they look at other options because their position on the team was not bright on the field.

Instead of complaining about SEC, ACC, tOSU, B12, P12 recruiting tactics why don't people start asking why we aren't pushing out non-contributors like Bronson Marsh, Tyler Evans, Nick Ash, Tobi Okuyemi, Walker Ashburn, Jay Guy, Donovan Vestal, Mike Moudy, Max Pirman, Daniel Davie, Mauro Bondi ? That is 11 scholarships being used by kids who have no business still being on scholarship.

How about we demand our staff go out and sign top end talent like Osborne & Callahan. Why is it everyone else's fault our talent level isn't even close to SEC elites.

Our program is a 50+ Million dollar business, until we start playing by the same rules as Tom Osborne was playing then you can't complain. Steroids, players getting money & cars from boosters, recruits getting extra benefits, off-field incidents being covered up, over-signing, not renewing scholarships... ie, the same stuff taking place at the nations elite.

Is bondi in line for starting kicker next year? Just curious.

It's not so much the SEC conference winning the titles, it's more one great coach that has won 4 of them. Saban is on a different level and the SEC takes credit as a conference. Any other SEC team probably gets beat by ND. An average at best Nebraska team played with their second best. The only way to stop it is if Saban gets bored and go to the NFL. If not the SEC will continue to piggy back off Saban coached teams. He is really that good!

  • Frankly, no SEC team would have made it to the CG if Kansas State and Oregon had simply taken care of business. They both pissed the opportunity away and Alabama was there to clean up.

As good as 'Bama looked, I think it was more about Notre Dame not belonging in the game. Granted, they were undefeated, but they could have easily lost 2-3 games this year. The TIde made ND look more like what they really were; a Top 15 type team. The Irish got way too much credit for beating a grossly over rated Oklahoma team and the hype machine took over from there. They eventually won them all, but it was apparent that the Luck of the Irish was alive and well all year for Notre Dame. Until last night, that is.

Alabama was poised and ready. Unfortunately, they and their SEC compatriots are making college football pretty boring for the rest of us. They simply get better athletes down there and there isn't much the rest of the country can do about it. 6 of the Top 25 players in the country are considering Ole Miss, for chrissakes, and they were all of 7-6 this year and have generally sucked for quite a while. The center of the college football universe has shifted.

I agree with the idea that we and the rest of the college football world need to step up. The SEC more or less gave away the NC when Bama lost to A&M, and then KSU and Oregon played horrible games and lost soon after. Either one could have put the SEC in checkmate and both failed. There's no argument that the SEC is the best conference, but there has been times over the past 7 years when other teams could have aced them out of the NC game by simply pulling their own weight. LSU won a NC with 2 losses, which should never happen if other teams win the games they should.

Hopefully, the new playoff system will add a little more drama to the process down the road. Between last year's paint drying festival between LSU/Alabama and this years game that was over in the 1st quarter, the championship process hasn't been too compelling lately.

  • I really don't understand the fans that cheer for the SEC. It seems that it's fans of schools that never win anything that are hitching a ride with Bama, LSU or UF. I didnt include Auburn. It would make me sick to see UM, OSU or anyone else in the B1G other than Nebraska win a NC. I don't think Bama, LSU or UF fans pull for each other. Just don't get it.

I think it's a cocktail of the football "brand" along with the lingering "South Will Rise Again" that blends to weld that part of the country together. It's a little weird but in my opinion that is all part of the Southern persona.

I also have to say that I enjoyed seeing Bama pound the Domers.

IMO a playoff will only make it worse.

As you noted, the SEC was nearly shut out if only Oregon or K-State had taken care of business. The best way to crown a team right now that isn't from the SEC is to keep the SEC out of the game. A playoff will almost assuredly include 1 SEC team every year, if not 2.

This is one of my biggest reasons as to why I am against a playoff. It will only give the SEC a 2nd if not 3rd chance. And when their best plays the best of everybody else they win 100% of the time. Often in humiliating fashion.

    Skerz

  • It ends when the rest of America steps up.

As was noted....Oregon and KSU had every chance to end it this year....they choked.

The SEC is always going to be regarded as the top dog until they aren't. The Big 10 has 3 chances every January 1 to shut them up and end it and they choke.

The gap isn't as wide as many want to make it out to be...but that league still performs the best when the lights are brightest. Until everyone else turns the tide...it won't change.

    Agree.

Right now, it appears the only way to beat the best team in the SEC is to catch them on an off week during the grind of the season. Give them 3 or 4 weeks to get ready, and their talent and coaching is likely to win out.

As much as people have been anticipating the playoff, if 2 SEC teams manage to get in, expect the string of SEC NC's to continue. They would probably win it most the time with 1 team out of 4. Put 2 SEC teams in a field of 4 and you can pretty much forget it, based on the last several years.

As far as the B1G "choking" against the SEC, it's usually more of a match up problem.

The B1G isn't choking away games they should have won as they are rarely favored. It's just that the SEC's #2 is better than the B1G's #2, and so on down the line.

Losing those games isn't choking, it's just getting out played by a better opponent.

Michigan had South Carolina beat this year until the desperation.
We had Georgia on their heels until we fumbled.

Last year, we were in control of the game until Ameer fumbled going into score and we gave up afluke hail mary
Ohio State shut down Florida last year with the exception of a kick return and defensive score.

Anyone who thinks its been a matchup problem hasn't watched the last two January 1s. The Big 10 has had every opportunity to win a number of games over the last 2 years, Credit to the SEC teams for making the plays when it matters most....but the gap isn't as wide as people want to believe.

The Big 10 had every chance to change the landscape of college football and blew it.

    Woulda, coulda, shoulda...

The B1G wasn't favored in any of those games. You can't say Nebraska should have beaten either SC or Georgia when we lost one game by 14 and another by 18. Kick returns, defensive scores (which WE had vs. Georgia) and fumbles are part of the game.

Other than maybe Michigan, none of those games were choked away. The better team won.

Kind of makes you root for Urban Myers doesn't it? I think he is our only hope to knock Saban off his Rocker. Sad to think this but no other coach is as good as him in any other conference

Saban and Urban Meyer account for 6 of the 7 -- the other being Auburn with Cam Newton. I think Ohio State will give the SEC a run for the money under Urban Meyer. If Nebraska can get some DL/OL to come in then I think there is a chance down the road. I wouldn't bother whining about the SEC's recruiting. The advantage isn't the numbers it is the location. The overwhelming number of studs come from the South (Texas east to Florida).
