I'm not trying to talk down on you or anything slandering but do you realize how silly this sounds when you put in context?
To those out there who think there should be an open competition:
There won't be, it's as simple as that. Taylor has earned the job. For someone to think Armstrong could beat him out is preposterous to me. Taylor isn't a perfect quarterback. I've posted my thoughts on here many times (most recently breaking down his film from the bowl game) but even with his flaws, he has proven worthy of our starting quarteback.

In a season the coaches have eyed for 2 years now.

Every position should always remain open for competition.
Back in 2001, the Patriots inked Drew Bledsoe to the then biggest contract in NFL history. 6 months later he took a hit that knocked him out of the game.
Even though Bledsoe was a 2 time All Pro, and 4 time Pro Bowler, even his job wasn't safe when Tom Brady came in and started winning games. He won so many games that the Pats won the Super Bowl and the very next year Bledsoe was no longer a piece of the team. I think we know how well that move has turned out for the Pats.
Nobody's position is safe. And that is the way it should be regardless if you are a returning starter or even all-conference player. What would be silly is to not have players competing forspots and to dole out playing time to returning and older guys.

Yes this is the supposed motto of a Bo Pelini Nebraska team. Yet it doesn't seem to apply to TM for some bizarre reason. In 2010 a redshirt Fr. TM was given an opportunity to compete against a very capable returning starter who was entering his 2nd season in the offense and had a very good showing in the Holiday Bowl. Pelini and Co. say that TM won that battle and he played, although I personally think that decision cost us 1 to 2 wins that season. We were planning for the future! Now Beardown is saying that TM is NOT subject to the same type of competition, which does seem to be the perception. Boy, that will really build team morale!
A guy who has averaged more than 2 turnovers per game during his career all by himself (much, much higher against quality competition) would not be subjected to proving he is the best player for the team at the position when there are reportedly incredibly talented alternatives? Do you realize how asinine that sounds?!?!?
There are rumblings from camp that TA is an unbelievable talent. I've heard people reference him as the second coming of Tommie Frazer but a better passer. None of us know if that is right, wrong or even close; but let's make a presumption Beardown. Let's assume that TA is the second coming of Tommie Frazier/Turner Gill or something really close. Are you in that scenario really going to pick Turnover Martinez over a young Tommie Frazier or Turner Gill? Wow!!!!! TM has never produced anything, and never will, that approaches either of those two historic QBs. I could really tear into this but I will defer because I wouldn't be kind.

Experience is most important at the QB and MLB position in football... experience factors into the competition. Someone has to blow away the coaches with knowledge, poise under fire, and athleticism to beat out a 3 year starter, especially at those two positions. If TA can unseat Taylor, that means he has done that, if he doesn't that means whatever TA initially brings to the table does not trump Martinez's talent, experience and knowledge combined.
Just because Martinez has a mile head start doesn't mean it's not an open competition. Just means it's a nearly insurmountable lead.

Ok, look....
Taylor vs. Tommy.
You have a guy in Taylor with 3 years starting experience coming back healthy. He is also seeing off season help again, which he should improve more than he did last year.
You have Tommy, who is coming off of knee surgery. A kid that is well known around the staff and those who watch practice and being well ahead of Taylor in regards to the option. Tommy has ZERO experience under the lights. Tommy is going to be a good QB and this is going to be completely different than ZL or CG vs TM.
Couple those things with the pressure thats on Bo to win this year, its hard to pass up Taylor for a unknown. I truly hope he gets snaps, and when he does we give him a chance. He will make some waves.
