1620 the Zone

  • Has anyone been listening to 1620 the Zone lately? Unsportsmanlike Conduct with Mike'l and Jason Peter is about the most negative radio show I have ever listened to. I know that USC is going to gain John Bishop, but I am about 95% sure I am done with that radio station. Sure everything isn't rosy in Lincoln, but there is no reason to complain and gripe for three of the four hours a day.

And don't get me started on their new producer who plays that stupid cheer drop every time someone says something negative about Bo. That little dofus wasn't even born during the glory years.

I agree... I like Jason but he needs to stop expecting this team to be the 1995 team... realistic expectations and objective analyses is all I ask for and he brings neither. Either they're amazing or they are the worst players ever. I might hang on to listen when Bishop comes on just to see how it goes.

  • If you've seen JP's Twitter, this should come as no surprise. Man lives in the past.

I'm not surprised, just disappointed at the direction the station is going.

  • The double nickel is like nails on a chalkboard. Does he talk about the rampant drug use on those teams, or the way they "treated" coeds?? I liked the wins, but at what cost? Hes a total joke.

It's surprising though BTBR how many people still think with the mindset that it is the 1990's in terms of the program. They still think we're one of the top 5 programs in the nation.

  • The guy thinks the program should be where he left it. I have trouble faulting him for that, but he should lighten up a bit and understand it took years to get there. When T.O. Left, the wrong people were left in charge and it may take years to get that back. The guy loves his school but hates where it is, compared to where it was. F it all and we will be there in due time. I love my Skerz and can't imagine how he feels. Dynasty's are years in the making and I think were on the right track. GBR!!!

  • Jason was on 1480 in Lincoln a few years back.

He was a broken record every day saying the same rhings over and over and over again.

I'm sure a couple of these are still part of his daily rants:

"...stick a knuckle in the dirt and get after it..."

"...get out there and hit somebody..."

    "...you gotta get nasty..."

It is the same message that we don't have the right mentality, physicality, and aggressiveness to play champiinship football. While I can agree to a point, he goes way over the top and becomes nothing more than a tired and old glory days windbag.

  • Turned on 1620 to hear what they had to say about media days. First five minutes I listened to was Jason Peter whining about Bo. The next 20 minutes was about everything that is wrong with Nebraska football.

I guess this is the end of Omaha radio for me.

Nothing that isn't true. The same questions we all have, about mental mistakes and the like. Jason Peter did some talking about Taylor whining on the sideline (which I actually think he did very little of last year).

There wasn't anything spoken that I think is untrue, much of it I actually agree with, but it was the way that it was presented. Both Bishop and Peter took very negative tones, they would bring up the bad, but not the good. Jason Peter once again put on his "I could do a better job hat" and talked about how if he did it he would do it differently (as if he has anywhere near the experience that Bo has as a coach).

I have no problem with bringing up the problems, there are problems. But I don't think there has to be a negative tone and it needs to be balanced by the positives.

It's one thing to have his spoken mind when asked and online. It's another when he's on the radio. I don't mind it because I don't listen to it -- But I think 1620 is going to lose a couple listeners with him around.

    Pretty funny.

The problem for Jason Peter as a radio show host is that he's pretty much a one trick pony. He's not the kind of guy who inspires you to tune in on a daily basis. About 1 hour a week is enough.

Personally, I don't know how you "sell" that as a programming director. I get the feeling JP is just a quick fix on the void left by Kugler and Schick.

The decision to move JP to the morning was made before Kugler left and before Schick took his ESPNU job. I dunno if Schick would have left if they hadn't cancelled the Schick and Nick show. He probably would have, but who knows.

I think I could handle JP in the afternoon if there was someone to balance him, but first thing in the morning? No way, that would be too much negativity for me in the morning. Not to mention JP managed to bring out the worst in both Bishop and Mike'l. I don't remember either of them being so negative before they co-hosted with him.

I find the JP hire suspect. If he couldn't make it in Lincoln as a former Blackshirt how is he going to make it in Omaha where some people actually care about some things that aren't Nebraska football related?

He brings up good points, but his constant calling out of players basically being a bunch of wussies is way over the top.
