If my digits are right my Cowboys are something like less than a million under the cap. It's going to be a rough offseason. I don't know what the hell they're going to do. They need to extend Romo (they just need to bite the bullet and accept that they have no choice), extend or trade Anthony Spencer, and cut Doug Free.

Apparently Jags and Eagles both very, very interested in Geno Smith. Maybe there's a chance Chiefs can trade down a couple of spots after all.

Luckily, the new rookie salaries allow you to take those gambles now. It's not like taking a quarterback will set you back anymore. Hypothetically, they could take Smith and draft a quarterback in the first again next year.

Maybe this isn't popular opinion, but I think if there's any cause for concern with backs or receivers than teams are wise to err on the side of caution by staying away unless they're truly desperate.

With the new limitations on rookie salaries you don't have to pay 1st rounders set back money anymore. The investments are better with rookies because they're not allowed to re-negotiate their deal for several more years. If you get a bust it costs you practically nothing. If you get a productive player you have him at a reasonable place for at least a number of years.

Not to mention - excluding the very rare talents - it seems as if rotational skill players are becoming a dime a dozen anymore. We're seeing more and more players coming from mid to late rounds (even quite a few undrafted guys) and producing immediately. Part of that is because of how competitive college football has become and the vast number of available athletes. Another part probably has to do with the level of expertise these coaches and quarterbacks have. Guys like Rodgers/Brady/Manning can do more with less.

Have to agree with Richie that Miami is foolish in letting him go.

Dallas was able to bring back Ernie Sims off the free agent market today. A very underrated move.

They now have approx. 100k in cap space until June 1st.
