Key recruiting period under way

Welcome to the VIP Room, the cornerstone feature of that takes you behind the scenes and brings you the very latest on University of Nebraska athletics.

The off-campus recruiting season began on Sunday, and the Huskers have a few key targets that they plan to visit soon. One of those targets is defensive tackle Lavon Hooks. Nebraska needs talented defensive tackles for next season, and Hooks fits the bill.

The Huskers are preparing for the Big Ten Championship game, so they may get a little later start on the recruiting trail this week - but the presitige of playing for a championship and a spot in the BCS should more than offset the small delay.

Another recruiting area to watch closely is the running back situation. We spell out for you where the Huskers stand now, and how they might proceed with a couple prospects still on their board.

The Huskers' defense has improved a great deal over the second half of the season, and we break down one are in particular that led to the unit's - and the team's - success down the stretch.

We also take a look and the basketball team, Darin Erstad's recruiting for the baseball team and more.
