Coming and Going: Defensive Backs

Ciante Evans

Ciante Evans will headline the Husker secondary this spring.

A look at Nebraska's situation at defensive back heading into spring practices.

    • We have a ton of petential at DB. If we could realize some of that talent, this group could be really, really good. Ideally, I would like to see Rose and Seisay lock down the corner spots. With Evans at Nickel and any combination of Harvey Jackson, Singleton and Charles Jackson at Safety. That's a lot of size and speed.

    • Love the potential at CB this year... especially with Jonathan Rose entering the fray... a name not to sleep on is Mo Seisay... it could be weird but I could see two new starters at Corner in Seisay and Rose come conference play with Evans at Nickel.

    • I think we'll be ok at CB this year. Outside of UCLA, they won't see many talented receiving units. Harvey Jackson needs to make it happen this year amd hope to see more athleticism at the safety spot.

Is there an echo in here? LOL!

I don't know if its been asked but can Rose play safety?

It has in the past. I don't think he wants to play corner. If I remember correctly, his father was asked about him playing safety because of his size and his dad answered "he's a corner."

I'd expect Rose to stay at corner.

    • Spring practice will be interesting. Can't wait to see how it shakes out.

      Huskers Forever

    • DB with Rose and Seisay will be solid, if someone else can beat them out, we will even be better. Evans can now stay at Nickel which will be good, should have solid back ups.

Safety, C. Jackson with his toughness, speed and being a football player will be a huge upgrade from last year thankfully. Hopefully, Green, SJB move over to safety to take the other spot? Will be an interesting spring and fall to see who takes the other spot, DJ, Drake and Gerry can't be counted out right now.

LB will be a big upgrade in speed and athleticism, experience will be an issue but the ability to run and make plays the other guys couldn't should be a plus.

DE, with Ankrah move inside, we should be much faster with Gregory and Moss taking over. Should be an upgrade in speed and athleticism at DE, will be young, untested and inexperienced but we should see an improvement in pass rush and the ability to run down QBs that the previous guys couldn't do.

With all the young talent at D, we should see an improvement with special teams, especially with our cover teams.
All of our young LBs can run, young safeties can run, we need a big upgrade with our special teams with some starters sprinkled in to upgrade speed, athleticism and toughness.

We will be young, inexperienced but hopefully we have new guys that are football players, intangibles are big, hopefully our new talent has this quality?

Also, moving Cotton to coach TE is a good move IMO, our Oline can be the strength of the team this fall along with our skill players coming back. Very bullish on our O playing at a very high level this fall and putting a lot of points up in a very favorable schedule set up. We improve our turnover ratio, improve our penalty situation and have an improvement at special teams, this could be a very special year. D will have its moments but hopefully with much improved play on O and ST will carry the day.

Good stuff... except for moving Andrew Green or SJB to Safety.
